Buying guide

WhatsApp automation or an AI voice agent first?

If you can only do one, which channel pays back faster — and how to tell from your own enquiry mix rather than from a vendor’s preference.

Short answer

Start with whichever channel your customers already use to reach you. In India that is usually WhatsApp for enquiry, catalogue, booking and follow-up, and voice for urgency, for older customers and for anything that needs a decision now. WhatsApp is cheaper to run, leaves a written record and tolerates a slow reply; voice is immediate, works for people who will not type, and captures the caller who would otherwise hang up. If your missed calls outnumber your unanswered messages, start with voice. Otherwise start with WhatsApp — it is the cheaper, faster deployment and it pays back sooner.

Which one fits you

Choose whatsapp ai if…

  • Most enquiries already arrive on WhatsApp
  • You need to send catalogues, images, price lists or documents
  • You want reminders, follow-ups and re-engagement at low cost
  • Budget is tight and you want the fastest payback
  • You need a written record of what was promised

Choose ai voice agent if…

  • You miss calls, especially outside business hours
  • Your customers call rather than message
  • The enquiry needs resolving in one interaction
  • Your team spends its day on repetitive inbound calls
  • Your customer base skews older or less comfortable typing

Where Skanda AI sits

We build both and we run several clients on both channels together, which is usually the strongest configuration: the voice agent answers the call and the WhatsApp thread carries the confirmation, the document and the reminder. If you are choosing one to start, we will look at your actual missed-call and unanswered-message counts and recommend from that, not from which product we would rather sell. WhatsApp is the cheaper first step for most businesses and we say so even though the voice engagements are larger.

Frequently asked

Which is cheaper, WhatsApp AI or voice AI?

WhatsApp, clearly. WhatsApp costs a conversation fee paid to Meta at published rates, with service conversations the customer starts often free and utility conversations cheaper than marketing ones. Voice carries per-minute speech recognition, language model and telephony costs on every call. Voice frequently still pays for itself by capturing calls that were previously missed entirely — but per interaction, WhatsApp is the cheaper channel and the faster payback.

Can one AI agent handle both WhatsApp and phone calls?

Yes. The knowledge base, business rules and integrations are shared; only the interface differs. That means a customer can start on a call and continue on WhatsApp without repeating themselves, and your team sees one history rather than two. We deploy this pairing regularly — voice answers, WhatsApp confirms and follows up.
